2019 Festival Appeal Target Announced!

At the annual meeting of Shropshire’s Freemasons at Harper Adams University College on Saturday, Provincial Grand Master Peter Taylor revealed a fund raising target of £1m over the next five years. This charity ‘Festival’ will end in 2019 with the presentation of the money to the Grand Charity in London, which oversees awards to Masonic and non-Masonic causes amounting to around £2.5m every year.

The meeting was attended by the Grand Charity’s President, His Honour Richard Hone, QC, and by Chief Executive Laura Chapman, who addressed the several hundred Masons present. She reminded Shropshire’s 1300 Freemasons that the Grand Charity gives substantial and continuing awards to regional as well as national charities. Recent recipients have included Shropshire’s hospices, the Prince’s Trust in Telford and the Midlands Air Ambulance.

In addition, the Grand Charity supports care of the elderly and disadvantaged, as well as providing funds for important medical research. Immediate and well directed funds are also made available from the Relief a Chest for disaster areas worldwide. Most recently Freemasons in England and Wales have raised over £200,000 for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines last November.  Other work of the charity can be seen at

Peter Taylor was also able to announce an updated website for Shropshire’s Masons at, as well as the Province’s 500th twitter ‘follower’ @shropshiremason after just twelve months. These online facilities are also carrying news of a new Lodge to be launched shortly in Telford, which is part of a nationwide Universities Scheme.
