Lodge Profile
Founded by local businessmen and traders, the name being derived from the ancient Welsh name for Shrewsbury, Pengwerne Lodge has always been an open, friendly and welcoming Lodge built on foundations laid well over a hundred years ago. It has an interesting history with its own traditions, and a membership drawn from a wide cross-section of the community.
Today, whilst proud of its history and traditions, it looks more to the future than the past and has been pleased to attract younger members who are taking the Lodge, one of the larger Lodges in the Province of Shropshire, into its second hundred years. We strive to see that our formal ceremonies are conducted to a good standard through a mentoring system, informal training and practice, and the use of on-line resources, yet remain accessible and welcoming to all, whether the principal appeal of Freemasonry is friendship, charity or self-awareness. Everyone wants you to enjoy your Freemasonry and will encourage and support you at every stage.
After each Lodge meeting we enjoy a Festive Board (dinner!). There are just a few formalities such as toasts, but the main objective is to see that all members can meet socially and strengthen the bonds of friendship.
Pengwerne Lodge meets at 6pm on the third Thursday September through to April at Freemasons Hall, Crewe Street, Shrewsbury. Although we take the summer months off, there are often social events giving opportunities for family and friends to join in the life of the Lodge.
