West Mercia Lodge is a Lodge which is open to anyone who has taken the Oath of a Constable, either as a Regular Officer or Special Constabulary officer in any Police Service having authority under the Crown. Membership will also be open to anyone having a special relationship to the Police Service or who has given special service to the Lodge provided they are proposed and seconded by members who have taken the Oath of a Constable.
The Lodge currently has 29 members and 9 honorary members who reside mainly in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and in some cases, even further afield.
West Mercia is a peripatetic Lodge, which means it moves around meeting at different lodge rooms within Herefordshire, Shropshire & Worcestershire, meeting at least once in each of those Provinces every year.
The Lodge meets on the 4th Tuesday in February, 3rd Tuesday in April, 3rd Friday in September and the 2nd Tuesday in December.
The Installation ceremony is the 3rd Friday in September and, being our domicile address, is always held at The Masonic Hall, 65, High Street, Church Stretton, Shropshire.SY6 6BY
The Lodge prides itself on delivering a high standard of ritual in the Temple and has a very enthusiastic festive board following each ceremony.
Being a Police lodge, we are only too well aware of the difficulties that some members may have in getting time off work to attend given that we cover a very large area. Members work/life balance is also taken into consideration.
All religious, financial and masonic questions are addressed as fully as possible during a candidate’s interview, which is usually held at his home with his partner present if they so wish to be. A full report is then presented to the Lodge committee.
Each candidate is mentored through this stage which continues through all the degrees to ensure that he is aware of what is required.
