Universities Scheme walk passes through Shropshire

from WBro Andy Delamere

In mid August the UGLE University Scheme DKW (David Kenneth Williamson) Cup Walk came to Shropshire for days 67 and 68 of the 92 day walk which will see the Cup taken a total of 2,021 miles around England and Wales from June until September.

The University Scheme lodge for Shropshire is The Iron Bridge Lodge, No. 9897 and with RWBro David Williamson as an honorary member they were keen to take up the mantle which saw them walk the cup from Telford to Stourport.

On Friday they welcomed Concordia Lodge, No. 5131 from Wolverhampton. On Saturday over 15 walkers from various Lodges, partners and supporters set off from The Iron Bridge to Alverley via Bridgnorth, a total of 18 miles. The only minor incident being that one walker was hit by a golf ball!! On Sunday a smaller number of walkers went 12 miles from Alverley to Stourport. They were greeted by the WM of Worcester Lodge, No. 280 and their PGM RWBro Robert Vaughan.

The walk would not have been successful without the support of all the walkers, drivers and cheerleaders!

I cannot thank everyone but special thanks to RWBro Roger Pemberton, WBro Roger Michell and his wife Linda who completed all 30 miles.

The trophy is now in the hands of Worcestershire who are walking it from Stourport to Evesham.
